Around 250 people made their way to Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey on Saturday to enjoy the annual Donegal Harrier’s Hunt Ball.
The organisers of the event, Kristina McGrath from Strabane and Rhona MacKenzie, had spent a long week finalising every detail for the event which has taken place every year for around a decade.
“It is an annual charity event and we raise monies for the riding for the disabled. We had a raffle on Saturday night. The prizes for the raffle were sponsored by local businesses and various people so we would very much like to thank them very much for their kind donations,” Kristina said.
The event is one which everyone who takes part in the hunt looks forward to. Every weekend, around sixty to seventy people mount their horses and alongside hounds, hunt the beautiful, picturesque surrounding countryside of Donegal. The outdoor activity is normally practised on a Saturday or a Sunday and at times may be weather dependant.
Saturday night marked a very poignant evening for Enda Houston who received the “Lagan Hare” award, an award which is presented every year. Enda received the award this year for his contribution to the hunt. Many of his friends and family were delighted that this year, Enda’s diligence and loyalty was marked by the organisation.
“Enda was chosen to receive the award for his contribution to the hunt. We were all delighted for him,” Kristina said.
On Saturday night those in attendance enjoyed a wonderful dinner before taking to the dance floor in all their finery to music from Bizz. Later in the evening the music was provided by the Party Boys Disco. The night was enjoyed by all those who attended.
“It was a very enjoyable evening. We always donate the money from this annual event to charity. Riding for the disabled is a voluntary organisation and it is very important. It is great to be able to contribute to such a worthwhile charity,” Kristina said.
